When I gaze into my future, what do I see? I see a healthy woman surrounded by family and friends. And some adoring dogs. I want for nothing. I have a passive income that takes care of my worldly needs. I have travelled the world. I can still run 5km a day! I still don’t know what it’s like to be sick.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading and free online webinars during the South African lockdown. I’ve learnt a lot. About all sorts of things. Most I will probably forget, but there are a few that I will remember for a long time to come if not forever.
The first is a lesson from Tony Robbins. In his Comeback Challenge, one of the many things he said is that “a breakthrough is a moment in time when everything changes, when the impossible becomes possible”.
I had a breakthrough! I realized that I was still living my old corporate pre-retrenchment story. I changed my story and the very next day made the one decision that would enable me to live my new story. And I acted on it. And things have started to happen. In a small way, but they are happening!
The second lesson is from another Tony. Not as well known as Tony Robbins, but he is on the President’s team of Herbalife. He posted a quote on social media that said “once you have a strong WHY, the rest becomes easy”. It was then that I realized that my WHY wasn’t strong enough.
So is it possible to strengthen your WHY? After thinking deeply about this for several days, I have come to the realization that I do have a strong enough WHY. It’s just that I haven’t placed all the pieces of the puzzle on the table yet, so the picture is not clear yet.
One of the ways to bring your WHY into focus strongly is to have a Vision Board. Some call them dream boards or treasure maps, but they work in the same way. A vision board enables you to visualize your dreams. The more creative and the brighter the colors the better! I’ve seen people photoshop themselves in exotic locations for their vision board! It has fooled me into thinking that they have been there already!
And that is the purpose of the vision board. Like the pieces of a puzzle, it all only makes sense to the brain once it’s all laid out and the picture is coherent. The brain doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality. So it’s important to hang your vision board where you’ll see it every day. Your brain will help to make it all a reality!
