Daily Gratitudes: Day 4 of 21

Day 4! And it’s getting seriously hard.

Shawn Achor, the author of The Happiness Advantage, lists 5 changes we can make to increase happiness. One is to practice gratitude and another is journaling. This challenge combines these two changes.

So what am I grateful for today?

The ONE thing that I am most grateful for today is for the opportunity I had to influence the outcomes of a selection process. I was a late addition to a panel of four selectors and I felt that I was able to add a lot of value to the process.

Today I was also grateful to receive the news that my car repair is nearly done. I have been without my car for three months now and I have almost forgotten what it is like to drive a car with a really powerful engine. I am grateful to have had the use of my daughter’s car. Although it only has a little 1400 engine, it is an automatic and it does have aircon; a necessity during our very hot summers.

Today I was grateful to have had lots of leftovers so we didn’t need to cook. We made a pot of fresh rice and we all chose what we wanted reheated in the microwave. My daughter chose to have the leftover steamed egg, I had the leftover chicken and my husband had the leftover fish. I am grateful that my family is not too fussed about eating leftovers now and again.

Finally I am grateful that my hairdresser has made a plan to cut and color my hair tomorrow night at such short notice. He usually does my hair at my house on a Sunday, and although I am due for a cut this coming Sunday, I have a very important meeting coming up that took me by surprise and my hair looks a little dull and a little overgrown.

For those who have been wondering what the other three changes Shawn Achor’s research has found, they are exercise, meditation and random acts of kindness. That’s it for today.

Until next time ☕️
